Iranian Wrestlers Win 3 Golds in Greco-Roman Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Hamid Sourian won the gold medal in the men’s 55-kg category following victory over his Azerbaijani opponent in the London 2012 Olympics. The 26-year-old Iranian athlete, who had overcome his Kyrgyz, Hungarian and Danish rivals in his march to the final bout, defeated Rovshan Bayramov from Azerbaijan in the category's last match. Sourian defeated Bayramov 2-0 in the first 2 minutes, and 1-0 in the second to claim the gold. The wrestler’s gold medal marks the first after 40 years of the national Iranian Greco-Roman team’s participation in the Olympic games. Other Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Omid Norouzi won the gold medal in the men’s 60-kg category following a convincing win over his Georgian opponent. Norouzi defeated Revaz Lashkhi from Georgia 1-0 in both the first and second 2 minutes of the match held at the London’s Excel to claim the gold. The 26-year-old Iranian athlete had overcome his Chinese, Bulgarian, Kazakh and Japanese rivals in his march to the final bout. Moreover, Greco-Roman wrestler Ghasem Rezaei claimed Iran's third gold medal in the London 2012 Olympic Games in the men’s 96-kg weight class. The Iranian defeated Rustam Totrov of Russia 3-0 in the final at the Excel Center. Rezaei overpowered Turkey’s Cenk Ildem 3-1 in his first match, before he beat Artur Aleksanyan of Armenia 3-0 in the quarter-finals thanks to his straight-back suplay or salto technique. Rezaei defeated Yunior Estrada Falcon of Cuba 3-0 in the semi-finals. | ||
