Iranian Basketball Team Beats Japan to Win FIBA’s 4th Asia Cup
Iranian basketball team has won the 2012 FIBA Asia Cup in a scintillating performance against Japan. The Iranian team came from one point behind in the last minute of the game to defeat the hosts 53-51 in the final match of the tournament at Tokyo’s Ota Gymnasium. Qatar placed third in FIBA’s fourth Asia Cup in Tokyo. The Iranian team beat the Philippines 77-60 in the semifinal. Iran also defeated the host team in the preliminary round. The FIBA Asia Cup, which was known as the FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup between 2004 and 2010, is a biennial tournament. Iran, the winner of the 2012 tournament, automatically qualified for the 27th FIBA Asia Championship, which will be held in Lebanon in 2013. | ||
