Army, IRGC Plan Joint Drills Commander of the Army’s Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) plan to stage joint military exercises in the current Iranian year (started March 20) to boost defense and combat capabilities. Speaking to reporters, Pourdastan said the Army would stage eight wargames in different fields, among them specialized airborne exercises and joint drills with the IRGC, ISNA reported. “The exercises will be held in the country’s southeastern or southwestern border areas,” Pourdastan said, adding that the wargames will be at division level and the first joint exercise between the two military forces after the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Army and IRGC hold regular wargames to practice combat tactics and also test new indigenous military devices, equipment and weapons in action. In the most recent case, Iranian Army and the IRGC reviewed their latest air defense tactics during drills held in the southern province of Bushehr. He further pointed to the accomplishments of the Army’s Ground Force, saying that in the current year named as the ‘Year of National Production, Supporting Iranian Labor and Capital’, the force will unveil a vertical wind tunnel (VWT). The project, which is used to simulate parachute jump, is being implemented for the first time in the Middle East, the commander noted. He highlighted Iran’s defense capabilities, saying Iran’s Armed Forces are in ideal conditions to defend the country. Referring to a modern fire-control system mounted on home-made Zolfaqar Tank, he said, “The (new) fire control system of Zolfaqar tank has been manufactured and unveiled and the laser telemetry devices have also been mounted onto the tanks. Zolfaqar can now vie with the world’s most advanced tanks,” Pourdastan told reporters. | ||
