Iran Claims Spanish Wrestling Grand Prix Iranian wrestlers grabbed all the seven gold medals of the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix for Olympic Wrestling held in Madrid to claim the men's freestyle title. Hassan Rahimi at the 55-kilogram category, Masoud Esmailpour at the 60-kilogram, Mehdi Taqavi at the 66-kilogram, Sadeq Goudarzi at the 74-kilogram, Ehsan Lashgari at the 84-kilogram, Reza Yazdani at the 96-kilogram and Komeil Qasemi at the 120-kilogram class pocketed gold medals for the Iranian squad. Hassan Rahimi defeated his British and Monacan opponents in his march to the final. He triumphed over his Kazakh rival Shagapuly Kaiyrbekov to win the gold medal in the 55kg category. In the 60kg category, Masoud Esmailpour routed the Egyptian, Kazakh and Peruvian rivals in the first, second and semi-final rounds respectively. He overcame his Senegalese adversary Diatra in the final to stand first and win the gold medal. Mehdi Taqavi won the gold medal and stood champion of the 66kg category after winning over the French, Hungarian and Kazakh rivals. Sadeq Goudarzi too ranked first and won the gold medal of the 74kg category after defeating Venezuelan wrestler Moreno Robertty in the final. Ehsan Lashkari of Iran snatched the gold medal of the 84kg category following victory over Belarusian opponent Murad Gaidarov. To win the gold medal in the 96kg category, Reza Yazdani overwhelmed Ivan Yankouski of Belarus. Komeil Qasemi defeated world champion Alexy Shemarov of Belarus, and European gold medalist Fatih Cakiroglu of Turkey and claimed the gold medal in the 120kg category. The 2012 Spanish Grand Prix for Olympic Wrestling was held in Madrid in July. | ||
