President Hails Olympics Gold Winner Athlete Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad congratulated the Iranian nation and athletes on the victory of Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestler Hamid Sourian, who won the gold medal in the men’s 55-kilogram category in the London 2012 Olympic Games. “Standing atop the winner's podium is an opportunity for the manifestation of the athletic traits of the zealous and diligent Iranian youths in the international arena,” President Ahmadinejad wrote in his message. “I hereby felicitate the Iranian wrestlers, athletes and nation on Iran's first gold medal at the London Olympics won by young and mettlesome Greco-Roman wrestler Hamid Sourian. I pray to God for more victories of Iranian athletes in the London 2012 Olympic Games,” he added. Sourian, who had overcome his Kyrgyz, Hungarian and Danish rivals on his march to the final bout, defeated Rovshan Bayramov from Azerbaijan. The 26-year-old Iranian wrestler defeated Bayramov 2-0 in the first 2 minutes, and 1-0 in the second to claim the gold. | ||
