Haddadi Wins Iran's First Ever Olympic Medal in Athletics Ehsan Haddadi won Iran's first ever Olympic medal in athletics by getting the silver in the men's discus throw competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Haddadi finished second with a 68.18-meter throw at the Olympic Stadium. Robert Harting of Germany won gold with a throw of 68.27 meters and Gerd Kanter of Estonia clinched bronze with a throw of 68.03 meters. Haddadi had taken the lead in the first round with a throw of 68.18 meters while both Harting and Lithuania's Virgilius Alekna also put down markers in the opening salvo. Kanter improved in every round and moved into second with his superb season's best effort in the penultimate round which pushed 40-year-old Alekna out of the medal positions. Harting found his best form in the same round to throw his winning effort and Haddadi then replied with an enormous effort only to have it ruled out for a foot fault. | ||
