Tourist Arrivals Up 49% Iran is ready to receive 7.5 million tourists, said the deputy head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization. Manouchehr Jahanian also said that tourist arrivals during July 22-Aug. 21 increased by 49 percent compared with the corresponding figure of last year. He noted that precise statistics are not available on the number of foreign tourists arriving in the country, pointing out that the related figures will be released by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2013). The official also said that tourist guides play a very important role in development of the country’s tourism industry. “The First College of Tourism Sciences and Fall Season School of Tourism opened during Tourism Week (Sept. 27-Oct. 3),” he said. Jahanian said earlier that all hotels and lodging houses of the country will be standardized by the end of the current Iranian year. Referring to the successful performance of ICHHTO’s Tourism Department during the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit held in Tehran during August, he said 7,000 foreign officials resided in 21 hotels and hotel apartments, and this generated $50 million in tourism revenues. The official said two tourism exhibitions, attended by 14 provinces of the country, were held on the sidelines of the summit and at Milad Tower. Jahanian hoped that the measure will help attract more foreign tourists in future. | ||
