AEOI Official: Iran Self-Sufficient in Producing Radiomedicines Deputy Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Qannadi announced that the country has managed to gain self-sufficiency in producing radiomedicines for the treatment of different diseases.
“Every Year 120 to 125 clinical centers in Iran used such (radio) medicines for one million patients and every week 200 patients used iodine127 for treating cancer, and after the sanctions (by the western states) , our scientists managed to identify and produce the radiomedicines needed for treating these diseases,” Qannadi said. He said that the radiomedicines are also used for the diagnosis of cancer, osteoporosis, heart diseases and incurable diseases. Iranian scientists have taken long strides in producing radiomedicine needed for patients after the western states banned their selling to Iran. The radiomedicines have been developed and produced by Iranian experts at the AEOI and with the cooperation of the presidential office for science and technology. Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Nasrin Soltankhah said, “Five radiomedicines, in whose production the Atomic Energy Organization has played the central role, will be unveiled by the end of Farvardin 2013 (mid April)”. She explained that the new radiomedicines are used for “diagnosing and curing refractory diseases, cancer in particular”. AEOI Chief Fereidoun Abbasi announced that Iran is due to unveil 8 new radiomedicines with applications for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of a number of diseases. “We have produced a number of radiomedicines before, and at present we have 5 new radiomedicines under production,” Abbasi said at a ceremony in Tehran. “They (the new radiomedicines) should pass clinical verifications and then obtain the necessary license from the Health Ministry before they can be unveiled and supplied to the market,” he added. | ||
