Senior Diplomat: No Secret Talks between Iran, US A senior Iranian diplomat dismissed the western media reports about secret talks between Tehran and Washington officials as baseless, saying that despite President Barack Obama’s superficial gesture, the US is still pursuing a hostile attitude towards Iran.
Our diplomatic ties with the US have always been affected by Washington’s meddling in Iran in the past (before the Islamic Revolution) and the continuation of its hostile policies against Iran and the Iranian nation after the Islamic Revolution; therefore, extreme distrust has always dominated the two countries’ relations,” Iranian Ambassador to Paris Ali Ahani said in an interview with France’s BFM TV channel. Asked if the two countries are holding secret talks, as claimed by the western media, he said, “It’s not true.” Ahani said that Barack Obama took some friendly gestures towards Iran after being elected as US president, while pursuing the same old hostile policies towards Tehran. “We need to witness practical and positive measures by them before we can show a proper response,” he stressed. In relevant remarks, the Iranian leader dismissed the US offer of direct talks with Iran, saying that the proposal has been made in word, while Washington’s actions show a different course, meaning that the offer is nothing but a cunning move. Addressing a gathering of Iranian Air Force commanders and personnel here in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei rejected the US statesmen’s remarks that the ball is now in Iran’s court, and said, “The ball is in your court because you should answer and say if speaking of negotiations concurrent with pressures and threats basically bears any meaning.” “Negotiation is meant to prove the goodwill. But you make tens of (hostile) actions with ill intention and then speak of negotiations in words. Can the Iranian nation believe that you are driven by goodwill,” the Leader continued. He further stated that the US needs talks with Iran because Washington’s Middle-East policy has proved as a failure and Americans need to show a winning ace to repair their damaged reputation. | ||
