Health Minister Attends WHA Meeting Iranian Health Minister Mohammad Hassan Tariqat Monfared attended the 66th World Health Assembly (WHA) meeting in Geneva.
Geneva hosted the 66th World Health Assembly meeting from May 19 to 23. The Iranian health minister, accompanied by members of the parliament’s Health and Medical Education Commission, is slated to deliver a lecture at the WHA meeting. Tariqat Monfared also met with a number of health ministers on the sidelines of the WHA meeting. The WHA meeting studied different health issues, including the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, tobacco control and mental health. The meeting also focused on topics such as women’s and children’s health, the implementation of the international health regulations and influenza preparedness. WHA is the decision-making body of WHO. It is attended by delegations from all WHO member-states and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the executive board. The main functions of the WHA are to determine the policies of the Organization, appoint the director-general, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed program budget. WHA is held annually in Geneva, Switzerland.
