Gasoline Self-Sufficiency Attained
Gasoline Self-Sufficiency Attained Gasoline production is now almost close to the consumption level thus doing away with the need for imports, announced the director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC). By the end of the current Iranian year (in March), the country’s gasoline production will surpass consumption, Mehr News Agency quoted Alireza Zeighami as saying. Earlier, Iran had to import 28 million liters of gasoline per day, but with the implementation of expansion projects in refineries, this figure has been reduced to zero, he added. Zeighami stated that Iran currently produces 58 million liters of gasoline per day, which, when taking the additives into consideration, equals the country’s 60-million-liter daily consumption. He further stated that by the end of the current year, Iran’s gasoline output will rise to 73.6 million liters. Iran plans to increase its gasoline output to 190 million liters per day by 2025, the NIORDC director added. Earlier, Zeighami, who is also deputy oil minister, said gasoline production in will increase by 16 million liters by the end of the current year. He stated with the completion of the 3 major development plans by the end of the current year, daily gasoline production capacity will increase. Consumption of 4 highly-consumed fuels has decreased noticeably since the implementation of the subsidy reform plan in December 2010, he said. Iranian gasoline imports slumped by as much as 95 percent over the last four years, according to official government figures, as rising refinery capacity and lower fuel subsidies help neutralize western sanctions aimed at starving the country of fuel.
