Naz Island Unique As news about the attractions of Naz Island have spread far and wide, more and more tourists are flocking to this Persian Gulf island, which is considered one of the seven wonders of Hormuzgan province. Naz Island does not have a sandy coast and is totally flat. When there is a low tide, a narrow patch of land connects Naz to Qeshm Island. Speaking in this respect, director general of Qeshm Free Zone Organization’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department, referred to Naz Island as a unique site that boasts of natural wonders. “The tranquility of Naz Island as well as its colorful seashells and corals have increased the beauty of this unique tourism site,” he said. When it is high tide, the island is surrounded by water. Hence, visitors wait and watch the eye-catching sceneries until the low tide arrives. Many people film the natural attractions. Naz Island is about 2 meters higher than sea level and there are few temporary shelters of the local fishermen. It is a small island and one can walk the 2-km distance at low tide. There are spots in the vicinity of Naz Island suitable for diving. Walls of the caves are soft that has facilitated digging and possibly served as a shelter. Some caves end in corridors. Remains of mollusks abound along the internal and external walls of the caves. Qeshm Island, extended over 1,500 square kilometers, is the largest Persian Gulf island. It has special tourism attractions like a salt cave, Harra forests, dolphins, Stars Valley, Chahkouh Strait, turtle egg hatching, indigenous and migratory birds, Khorbas Cave, Portuguese Castle, Tala Wells, Bandar Laft’s wind towers and unique coasts. Hengam stretches over 33.6 sq km and looks like an incomplete cone facing the southern coast of Qeshm Island. It is about 92 nautical miles from Qeshm city. The island is made of lime hills. Larak Island spans 84.7 sq km and is located 81 nautical miles from the major port city of Bandar Abbas and 6 nautical miles from Qeshm city. It is on the northeastern flank of the city. The latter comprises conical volcanic mountains and boasts of several salt springs and beautiful sunny beaches. There is no major agricultural activity on the island save for some fishing and diving. Locals consume water from wells and pools. Hormuz Island has an area of 14.9 sq km and is located 10 nautical miles southeast of Bandar Abbas. It is made of sedimentary and igneous stones while salt layers cover large parts of the island in the form of hills. Its highest point is 186 meters above sea-level and the biggest diameter measures 8 km. Due to low precipitation and salty sand, there are few water sources, pastures or plants on the island. The main source of income of the islanders is extraction and export of red soil. Blue salt and stones are its other products. Qeshm Island has an area of about 1,500 sq km and has the longest shores along the Persian Gulf. Zeitoun, Simin, Naz, Souza, Mosen, Shibderaz, Salakh and Doustkou coasts are the main attractions. There is a variety of sand and clay rocks on the island’s coast, which can rarely be found on other islands. Silver-colored coasts are the other exclusive features of Qeshm’s coasts. It also has mangrove forests across coastal regions. Zeitoun coast, at the southern tip of Qeshm city, has become a key resort for tourists. It is dominated by rocks and coral. | ||
