Iran Invited to Dragon Boat Championships Iran has been invited by the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) to participate in the 2012 Club Crew World Dragon Boat Championships. In a letter to Iran’s Dragon Boat Association, the federation has invited all Iranian clubs to join the contest, the Persian daily ‘Iran Varzeshi’ said. The IDBF World Championship, a premier event in the dragon boat world calendar, is scheduled for 4-7 July in Victoria Harbor Kowloon, Hong Kong-China. The 2012 CCWC which is supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will be held over the racing distances of 200m, 500m and 2000m. To mark the 36th anniversary of the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races that started the modern era of the Sport in 1976 and the 21st anniversary of the founding of the IDBF in Hong Kong in 1991, the 8th IDBF CCWC will incorporate the special celebratory Hong Kong Invitational Dragon Boat Races. The IDBF is the SportAccord Member specifically Dragon Boat Sport and as such is the world governing authority for dragon boating. SportAccord, formally the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognized organisation and as a Member of SportAccord, the IDBF abides by the terms of the Olympic Charter. | ||
