Iran Shines at Zurkhaneh Sports Championships Iran’s Arsalan Amini won the gold medal at the first edition of the Asian Junior Zurkhaneh Sports Championships and Parazurkhaneh Sports Championships that was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The Iranian disabled athlete seized the gold medal in the standing class of the kabbade event with 287 points, Mehr News Agency said. Saidmurad Nizomov of Tajikistan A team claimed the silver medal at the class with 146 points and bronze medal went to Rahmatullo Aliov from Tajikistan B team with 130 points. In the wheelchair class, Indian Thakur Vinod claimed the gold with 206 points. The silver medal went to Iran’s Shahabedin Basamtabar who has scored 149 points and Asadullah from Pakistan claimed the bronze medal with 109 points. The event was held at the Hakim Abolqasem Ferdowsi Hall in late December. Some 70 athletes from nine countries namely, Tajikistan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, Iraq, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei and South Korea participated in the competitions. The opening ceremony was attended by head of Iran’s National Olympic Committee Mohammad Aliabadi. Abdollah Sajjadi, head of the IZSF technical committee, said, “Our objective is to introduce Zurkhaneh Sports as an Olympic event. Everyone can enjoy it anywhere and anytime. We have worked to develop the sport around the world during the past years. At the moments, as you see in the Asian Junior Championship, the athletes from Nepal and India have improved their skills and become an integral part of the federation.” | ||
