Iran crowned Asian Weightlifting Champion Iran won the title of the 2012 Asian Weightlifting Championship in Pyeongtaek, South Korea in May. In the last day of the competitions, Iran’s Behdad Salimi snatched the gold medal in the super heavyweight class. The two-time world championship gold medalist, finished in first place by lifting 206kg in snatch, 245kg in clean and jerk and 451kg in total. In this category, Sajjad Anoushiravani – also from Iran – claimed the bronze medal with a total of 431kg. South Korean Jeon Sang-Guen stood second with 437kg in total. Iranian Sohrab Moradi had also won the gold medal in the 85kg class with a total of 388kg. His compatriot Kianoush Rostami won the silver by lifting 383kg in the same class. Sajjad Behrouzi seized the bronze medal in the 69kg class with a total of 323kg. Shi Zhiyong and Liu Weihuang – both from China – won the gold and silver medals respectively in this class. Sohrab Moradi was selected as the best lifter of the competitions by the organizers. Iran claimed the title with 501 points, followed by South Korea and Kazakhstan with 500 and 441 points respectively.
