Iranian Universities Launch Enzyme Production Plant Iran’s Sharif University of Technology along with Tehran University, Tarbiat Modares University and Shahid Beheshti University has built a pilot plant to produce industrial enzymes. The semi-industrial unit is now producing four types of enzymes used in the detergent industry, ISNA reported. According to researchers, the production volume is expected to hit 15,000 liters per month. It would be ready to meet the country’s needs in other industries due to the plant’s smart and flexible design. The initial investment of the plan reached $2.5 million, but it can be reduced to 1/5th if the project includes other enzymes as well. Over 50 percent of the equipments are produced locally and the rest will be imported from Germany and the US. Industrial enzymes can be used in detergent and food industries. The use of enzymes in detergent formulations is now common in developed countries, with over half of all detergents presently available containing enzymes. | ||
