London Gallery Displays Persian Calligraphic Paintings The Amir Mohtashami Gallery in London hosted an exhibition of calligraphic paintings by Ebrahim Olfat and Azra Aqiqi Bakhshayesh. Entitled “In the Beginning Was the Word”, the showcase was curated by Farah Hakemi in April 2012. Hakemi has said that she aims to introduce contemporary Iranian calligraphy to foreign audiences through this showcase, Mehr News Agency reported. “Azra Aqiqi Bakhshayesh is the only professional conceptual calligraphic woman artist in Iran and her work draws on the rich heritage of historical writings,” the website of the exhibit explained. The website introduces Ebrahim Olfat by saying that his artwork “Conjures up images of the sea and waves. His lines have a wave like quality and their movement reminds the viewer of the excitement and confusion of waves crashing on a pebbly shore”. Amir Mohtashemi specializes in Islamic and Indian works of Art. The gallery displays a wide range of items, from Nishapur pottery to Safavid ceramics, and from Indo-Portuguese furniture to Qajar tiles. | ||
