Kazzazi Converts ‘Odes of Horace’ to Persian Acclaimed Iranian literary figure Mir Jalaleddin Kazzazi will soon release his Persian rendition of ‘Horace’s Odes’. The book will be published by Moin Publications and presented in Tehran Book Fair. Roman orator Horace is the second great epic writer after Virgil, according to IBNA. “This is the first time these odes are rendered into Persian. ‘Chameh’ is the Persian word for the poetic form of ode in English and Qasida in Arabic. As the name of the book suggests, it is a collection of scattered verses of this great orator and therefore it could be considered as his anthology, Kazzazi said. “Most of these odes have historical and epic backgrounds and composed in a sensational language especially when describing events like Julius Caesar’s battles. Some other odes deal with the life of Horace and his relations with his contemporary orators and artists,” he said. “Since Horace’s poems are challenging and controversial, I based my Persian rendition on two French translations of his odes and then checked them with the original Latin text.” He then mentioned some reprints of his previous books and translations that will be available in the 25th Tehran Book Fair. | ||
