1.4m Jobs Created Last Year Some 1.4 million jobs were created during last Iranian year (ended March 19) as a result of which the unemployment rate reached 12.3 percent, said head of Iran’s Statistics Center. Adel Azar told IRNA that on average, 1.2 million people join the job market annually. Out of 1.2 million individuals who entered the job market last year, one million were recruited, he pointed out. He mentioned that the number of unemployed people decreased to 2.8 million last year from 3.2 million in the preceding year. Azar reiterated that statistics pertaining to employment and unemployment rates have been collected by Iran’s Statistics Center and are reliable. The government managed to create 1.2 million jobs during the year to March 2011, he said. This is while, Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor, and Welfare has put the number of generated jobs at 1.3 million during the aforesaid period, he pointed out. On women’s participation rate, he said at one time women generally lacked higher education or were desperate to find a job. Currently women have become hopeful to find appropriate jobs, he mentioned. Today, women account for over 60 percent of university admissions, he said. Commenting on the transfer of manpower from various economic sectors, he said about 1.1 million workforce were relocated in agricultural, industrial and services sector last year which is natural. He continued that based on the first section of Article 54 of the Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2010-15), Iran’s Statistics Center is in charge of releasing official statistics across the country. The official explained that Iran’s Statistics Center belongs to the people, and its statistics are unbiased and free from discrimination. | ||
