Shadi Hoping to Improve Record
Shadi Hoping to Improve Record Iranian rower Mohsen Shadi hopes that he can improve his record before the 2012 London Olympic Games. Speaking to Mehr News Agency he said, “Fortunately I took the berth for the prestigious Olympic Games in South Korea a while ago. Athletes from 26 Asian countries took part in the competition. In my category, 24 athletes were present. As you know the competition was very tough because only 6 of us will get the Olympic berths.” Shadi also added that the training camp in China, which was held before South Korean competition, helped the team a lot. The gold medal holder of the Guangzhou Asian Games added, “I was a little bit unlucky in South Korea. I had a cold and this prevented me from gaining the top spot. But hopefully cruised into the semifinals and booked my place for the London Games. I think taking the Olympic berth is more important than wining gold medal in the competition.” On his preparation for the Olympic Games Shadi added, “I wanted to take part in the rowing world Cup in Switzerland but the cold stopped me. I think it is better to continue my trainings instead of participating in different competition.” Shadi, who was youth champion, said, “I can see good improvement in rowing after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In these years I have won 2 world and Asian gold medals. Our women have also gained good results. They got Asian bronze medal and Solmaz Abbasi, one of the members of the team, managed to take Olympic berth.
